OTTAWA – While negotiations continue, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has announced rotating strike action will start in Vancouver at 9 a.m., while strikes began in Saint John, N.B. and Sudbury, Ont., at 12:01 a.m. and in Niagara Falls, Ont., at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 26 (local times).

Employees have returned to work in Red Deer and Calgary, Alta., and in Sherbrooke, Que., where 24-hour rotating strikes have ended.

Service Impacts

Mail and parcels will not be delivered or picked up in the impacted areas while the union continues their strike activity. Canada Post is attempting to minimize the impact on customers.

Canada Post continues to operate across the rest of Canada and is accepting and delivering mail and parcels in all other locations. We thank our customers for their continued patience.

Negotiations

Canada Post welcomes the appointment of a special mediator by the federal Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, Patty Hajdu, to assist the parties in reaching a negotiated settlement. We remain committed to the bargaining process.

The Corporation has made significant offers to CUPW which include increased wages, job security, and improved benefits and has not asked for any concessions in return.

We value the relationship with the union and have been able to find common ground on some issues and have also committed to work together constructively on several important files. Those include working together to address employees’ workload concerns caused by parcel growth, additional financial services and going beyond pay equity for Rural and Suburban employees by extending job security and moving to one uniform for all delivery employees.
