OTTAWA – Canada Post has received strike notices from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), for both Urban and RSMC (Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers) bargaining units. The notices indicate that CUPW will be in a legal position to begin strike activity on November 15 at 12:01 a.m. ET.

Loss consistent with prior year as revenue gains offset by increased costs

HIGH PRAIRIE, Alberta – To better meet the needs of area residents and Indigenous communities in the region, Canada Post has added new services to the High Prairie Post Office through a new community hub model – the first of its kind in Canada.

OTTAWA – Canada Post released today a poignant stamp to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the official adoption of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance in Canada. The release coincides with the launch of The Royal Canadian Legion’s 2021 National Poppy* Campaign, which begins the last Friday of October each year.

OTTAWA – Over the next week, Canada Post will unveil five stamps that celebrate five of Canada’s greatest editorial cartoonists, whose thought-provoking and seminal work has helped shape our national fabric over the last half-century. OTTAWA – Canada Post recorded a loss before tax of $151 million in the second quarter of 2021, an improvement of $227 million from the $378 million loss before tax in the same quarter a year earlier. Although significant, this improvement resulted mainly from the unique unfavourable effects of COVID-19 on the business and one-time charges in 2020.

OTTAWA – Canada Post has adopted a science-based target to reduce its scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 30 per cent by 2030, an initial target that will set it on a path to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

OTTAWA / TORONTO – Canada Post and The Toronto-Dominion Bank ("TD") are pleased to announce they have entered into a strategic alliance to expand access to financial services for Canadians, beginning with a new personal loan product. MONTRÉAL – On July 19, Canada Post will begin testing e-cargo trikes in selected areas of downtown Montréal as an environmentally friendly option to deliver packages. Over the next three months, trained employees will operate the trikes on some downtown routes.

As Canadians continue to connect through the postal system, Canada Post will maintain stamp prices at 2020 levels through 2021. That means the price of a stamp for a letter mailed within Canada and weighing less than 30 g will remain at $0.92 when purchased as part of a booklet, coil or pane, and $1.07 when purchased individually. Stamp prices for letters, cards and postcards sent to the U.S. and other international destinations will also remain the same.

Canada Post is experiencing an unprecedented number of transactions at post offices across the country as Canadians look to safely connect with loved ones through the mail this holiday season.

In the final days before the calendar turned to December, Canada Post delivered almost 3 million parcels across the country. That includes approximately 2.1 million parcels delivered on Monday, November 30, 2020 after a weekend with approximately 800 thousand parcel deliveries. As Canada's parcel delivery leader, we've fully implemented plans to scale up and stay safe while responding to the expected heavy holiday parcel volumes.

Canada Post is reminding Canadians to mail their letters to Santa this week to ensure they receive a reply before Christmas.

Canada Post has implemented a mandatory mask or face covering policy at all its facilities across the country. This is a national policy which applies to all employees, visitors and customers.

Canada Post recorded a loss before tax of $265 million in the third quarter of 2020, as declines in Transaction Mail and Direct Marketing revenue and higher costs had a significant impact on earnings. Parcels revenue continued to grow in the quarter, but it was not enough to offset these contributing factors.

In a year where Canadians shifted much of their shopping online in response to COVID-19, Canada Post is planning for a Christmas season like no other. The rapid escalation in demand for parcel delivery is expected to continue into the holiday season and beyond as more Canadians plan to do their shopping online.

On Wednesday, September 16, Canada Post was notified that an employee tested positive for COVID-19 at the Streetsville Post Office, at 224 Queen Street South, Mississauga. This employee’s last day of work was Friday, September 11.

Today, Canada Post issued a set of five commemorative stamps celebrating six groundbreaking physicians and researchers: Drs. Bruce Chown, Julio Montaner, Balfour Mount, M. Vera Peters, James Till and Ernest McCulloch. Their contributions to the fields of pediatric pathology, HIV/AIDS, palliative care, oncology and stem cell science changed the practice of medicine in Canada and around the world.

Canada Post recorded a loss before tax of $378 million in the second quarter of 2020. This increased loss was largely due to the significant impact COVID-19 had on revenue and costs, combined with the added costs stemming from the June 2020 arbitrator’s ruling. The ruling resulted in new collective agreements with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).

To continue operating during COVID-19, small businesses across Canada were forced to transform. Canada Post is launching the Small Business Tales of Triumph Contest to celebrate those local, small businesses that adapted to extraordinary times in extraordinary ways.

With COVID-related restrictions easing across the country, businesses are reopening and fewer Canadians are at home during the day. As a result, we are entering a new phase in our efforts to ensure the safety of our people and our customers while providing an essential service. These efforts will involve carefully phasing out some of the changes we made, while modifying or keeping other changes.

As a result of COVID-19, the 2020 Canada Post E-commerce Innovation Awards are cancelled.

Canadians should anticipate parcel delays for the foreseeable future, even as Canada Post delivers at record levels. As Canadians continue to ramp up and diversify their online shopping, Canada Post is responding to unprecedented parcel volumes while maintaining important physical distancing measures in all our facilities. Processing record parcel volumes in plants that were never designed to keep people two metres apart takes more time.

OTTAWA – Canada Post recorded a loss before tax of $66 million in the first quarter of 2020, as continued growth in Parcels revenue and volumes was not enough to offset increased costs. Ongoing declines in Transaction Mail and Direct Marketing also contributed to the loss.

Canada Post is reporting a loss before tax of $153 million for 2019. While it remains the country’s leader in e-commerce delivery, its Parcels business grew at a slower pace in 2019 as the competition in e-commerce delivery intensified.

Postage rates rise on January 13, with the price for stamps purchased in a booklet, coil or pane for domestic Lettermail™ TM items weighing 30 grams or less increasing to $0.92, up from $0.90. The price of a single domestic stamp will increase to $1.07, up from $1.05.

There is still plenty of time to shop online as Canada Post’s holiday delivery plans are in full effect, helping us to deliver a record 3.2 million parcels over this past weekend and on Monday. On Monday (December 9) we delivered 2.2 million parcels, combined with the 960,000 we delivered over the weekend which were both new highs. We expect to deliver an average of 1.7 million parcels a day between now and Christmas.

OTTAWA – Canada Post recorded a loss before tax of $135 million in the third quarter of 2019, as ongoing declines in mail volumes were only partially offset by Parcels volume growth.

Canada Post has issued a recall of The Magi Holiday domestic stamp booklets of 12 as we have detected that some of them may be defective. We apologize for this error and are working to reprint and restock the item and expect to have replacement booklets available for sale online on Friday, November 22 and in stores early the week of November 25.

Canada Post is resetting passwords for all online customer accounts, starting on October 16, 2019.

Canada Post is proposing to increase postage rates in 2020 by two cents for a domestic LettermailTM item of 30 grams or less.
